AI-Assisted Learning Policy

Mauli Classes · version 1.0-draft · effective 2026-10-14Draft — under review

Draft for review — not yet in effect.

Where things stand today

  • No AI service is connected to Mauli Classes. We have no contract or account with any AI provider for the class.
  • No real information is sent to any AI. Students' names, homework, photos, marks, attendance, fees and messages, and the Teacher's study material, are not sent to any AI service.
  • No AI decides anything. Marks, feedback, results and progress are entered and checked by the Teacher.

The "Demo assistant"

A private demonstration version of the app, used to show how the app works, contains a feature called "Demo assistant". It:

  • is available only to the Teacher role in that demonstration version, not to students or parents;
  • works entirely on the device, using fixed sample answers, not an AI service;
  • shows student progress examples only for made-up people and made-up data;
  • does not send anything to any AI service or store anything on our servers;
  • is labelled as a demo on every draft it shows.

The demonstration version's "Explore Demo" also uses only fictional people and stores nothing on our servers. The demo is not part of the version families use for the class.

Why we are careful

Our students are children. Their schoolwork and marks are personal, and a mistake or a careless label can hurt a child. AI tools can be wrong, can be biased, and may keep or reuse what is sent to them. So we will not use AI with real information unless we are satisfied that it is safe, useful and fair, and families have been told first.

What must happen before any real AI feature is turned on

Before Mauli Classes uses any AI feature with real class information, all of the following must be done:

  • Provider review: the AI provider is chosen and checked for security and reliability.
  • Data-processing terms: a written agreement with the provider limits what it can do with the information.
  • Retention and training: the provider must not keep the information longer than needed and must not use it to train its models; we will confirm this in writing.
  • Children's data assessment: we assess the effect on students, as children, under Indian data protection law.
  • Cross-border assessment: we check where the provider processes information and whether that is allowed.
  • Minimum information: we send the least information needed. Where possible, names and other details that identify a student are removed first.
  • Teacher approval: the Teacher must approve each use, and nothing AI produces reaches a student or parent without her review.
  • Human review: every AI suggestion is checked and edited by the Teacher, who stays responsible for it.
  • No automatic grading or publishing: AI will not mark work, enter results or publish anything on its own.
  • No profiling: AI will not be used to judge a student's personality, intelligence or mental state, or to give students behavioural labels.
  • Copyright review: material given to an AI tool must be material we are allowed to use in that way.
  • Cost controls: limits are set so that use stays within the class's budget.
  • Updated policies and re-acceptance: this policy is updated, and the Privacy Policy, the Child & Student Privacy Notice and the Terms of Use are published as new versions that parents and students must accept in the app before the feature is turned on.

What AI could be used for in future

If the conditions above are met, AI might help the Teacher with tasks such as drafting practice questions or summarising her own notes. Any such feature will be described here before it starts. AI suggestions would only ever assist the Teacher; final academic decisions stay with her.
